CV

Born in 1975 in Freiburg im Breisgau. After A levels and National Service university studies of History and Nordic Philology (at first even Geography) in Kiel and Oslo from 1996 until graduating with a Masters´ degree in 2002. Worked as student research assistant at the chair for Economic and Social History (Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fouquet) at Christian Albrechts Universität zu Kiel from 1998 till 2002. 2002/2003 position as graduate research assistant at Ernst Moritz Arndt Universität Greifswald within the research project “Principes“ led by Prof. Dr. Karl Heinz Spieß. 2003 till 2005 doctoral scholarship by the Gerda-Henkel-Stiftung for the Ph.D project. “Lebensformen im Krieg. Eine Alltags- und Erfahrungsgeschichte des süddeutschen Städtekrieges 1449/50” (Ph.D. in January 2006). Starting in August 2005 Research Associate, since January 1st 2011 Lecturer at the chair of Economic and Social History. 2011/12 post-doctoral research scholarship (6 months) by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung. In 2013 habilitation with the treatise: “Verhandelte Stadt. Herrschaft und Gemeinde in der frühen Urbanisierung des Oberelsass vom 12. bis 14. Jahrhundert” and substitute professor of the chair for Economic and Social History in Kiel.

 

Interests:

Medieval Economic and Social History especially of town and nobility as well as the links towards Political History; War and Feud in the Middle Ages; Regional History of Southwestern Germany; History of Scandinavia; and as a rather exotic hobby for a medievalist: American History.
