Natural History and Meicine in the Danish-Norwegian Monarchy and beyond (18th - 19th centuries)

International Workshop in Kiel, September 4th - 6th 2014

During the eighteenth and  nineteenth centuries, intellectuals, researchers and amatueurs from the Oldenburg monarchy joined global networks of knowledgeexchange. They shared a common passion for collecting, painting and describing plants, animals and objects and thus accumulated an immense knowledge in the fields of natural science and medicine. The international workshop discusses patterns, concepts and an increasing institutionalization of medical and natural science in a broad, comparative perspective. It will notably consider developments and changes between the Age of Enlightenment and the times of growing national identities.
