India and Northern Europe. Identity Formation, Nation, and Knowledge Transfer in the 19th and 20th Century

Workshop India 2017

International Workshop at Kiel University, 14th-16th May 2017

The workshop investigates the construction of identities in Northern Europe and India during the 19th and 20th century. On the one hand, its objective is to identify, in which way knowledge transfer in various disciplines and formats between both regions stimulated – and still stimulates – debates on and transformations of identities, starting at the outset of the 19th century. On the other hand, it opens up comparative perspectives on the emergence of national/regional identities in Northern Europe and India.
